Creative Ideas for the Work Shoe of the Future: Students Impress with Their Designs for the Healthcare Sector
From the Idea to the Final Concept
What will the work shoe of the future look like? That was the question that kicked off our joint design project with the German Shoe Technical School in Pirmasens earlier this year.
As part of the “New Workwear” project, the students developed user-centered footwear concepts tailored to the requirements and needs of healthcare workers. In doing so, they followed a holistic design process—from user surveys and analysis, through the development of a user persona and the design concept, to the independent creation of handmade prototypes.
This resulted in a total of 13 different shoe designs, which were presented and evaluated during the final presentations. The three winners have now been selected.

The award-winning designs stood out for their creative and modern design concepts. The students thoroughly explored the requirements of the healthcare sector, successfully combining functionality, comfort, and design. The resulting concepts demonstrate just how versatile and forward-thinking the development of work shoes can be.

However, the project does not end with the award. ABEBA will further develop the three winning designs and turn them into actual shoe models.
In this way, the students’ ideas pave the way directly from the initial design concept to a real ABEBA work shoe.
For us, this is an exciting opportunity to incorporate new perspectives into product development and to work with up-and-coming designers on the work shoes of tomorrow.
